2. Römerberg

The Römer is a highly photogenic place, and you have probably seen plenty of pictures of the buildings by now. Since the 15th hunderts, the historic square is home to Frankfurts town hall. Being so, there are often protests in front of the town hall. Besides that, it is a very touristy place, but for a reason: You can’t leave before taking a photo of the building and fountain of justice. If you are lucky, there is a fair or market. Make sure to visit the charming  german cafes that are famous for their baked goods and cakes.

WHAT TO EAT IN FRANKFURT

WHAT TO EAT IN FRANKFURT

My absolute favorite must-have in Frankfurt is Grüne Soße.

One of my all-time favorite dishes in Frankfurt is Grüne Soße,  in English: Green Sauce. It may not sound very appetizing but I assure you it is incredibly delicious. This sauce is a mixture of fresh herbs and yogurt and is served cold with a side of potatoes and hard-boiled eggs. As strange as it might sound to you, Gruene soße It’s a perfect light yet filling meal.

Another must-try in Frankfurt is Handkäs mit Musik, which is hand-cheese with music. I have to admit,It’s not for everyone, but you can always find a restaurant that offers a plate of Frankfurt specialties so you can sample a variety of dishes.

For dessert, don’t miss out on Spätzle to satisfy your sweet tooth.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Frankfurt Airport

You can reach more than 306 destinations in 98 different countries, from Frankfurts airport, making it Germany’s biggest airport.  With that kind of traffic, long layovers in Frankfurt am Main are no surprise. Instead of being annoyed by long layovers, use the opportunity to discover the city!

Transportation to the City

Reaching the heart of the city from Frankfurt Airport is a quick  20 train ride. If you’re in the city for a brief visit, renting a car might not be the best choice, as parking can be difficult to find. Instead, I recommend using public transportation. There are plenty of public transportation options available. The train, bus, and taxi are all convenient ways to travel to the city center. It’s user-friendly and straightforward. You can take the Regional Train S8 or S9 from the Frankfurt Airport Regional Train Station to one of three train stations: Konstabler Wache, Hauptbahnhof, or Hauptwache, depending on your destination. If you prefer the bus, the Deutsche Bahn website provides schedules for your convenience.

In terms of cost, a one-way ticket for public transportation costs approximately 6 euros. If you plan on using public transportation throughout the city, consider purchasing a day pass for 11.30 euros. This pass allows unlimited travel for a day.
