Rhodes, Greece -3 Day Itinerary For An Off-Season Trip

I am sharing my Rhodes, Greece -3 Day Itinerary with you because I had an amazing time. Rhodes is an incredible Greek island with a rich history and plenty of activities to offer for a perfect short vacation. During my spontaneous three-day trip to Rhodes, I was able to explore ancient ruins and visit amazing beaches. However, I should mention that March and April can be pretty chilly in Europe, and it might even rain. Additionally, it’s just the beginning of the holiday season, so some restaurants, hotels, and bars are just starting to open after their winter break.

But don’t let the weather stop you. If you bring the right clothes, you’ll be perfectly fine. The only thing you might not be able to do is swim in the ocean (if you’re brave enough, you can still give it a try. I personally did not). One of the best things about visiting during the low season is that you’ll have all the tourist attractions mainly to yourself. This means you can take pictures without worrying about people in the background, walk around without being squeezed by sweaty people, and the locals have more time and patience to connect with you.

Tips for Rhodes, Greece

Transportation

My biggest mistake was not renting a car at the airport. As I was travelling with a friend, we could have saved a lot of money as renting cars is pretty cheap and we would have had a lot of convenience during our whole trip. If you travel during high season, make sure to rent a car in advance.

Food

Personally, and as a vegetarian, I always have trouble finding food in Greece, as they mostly serve meat and seafood. But this time me and my friend found a few good options, so make sure to eat the following things, even if you aren’t a vegetarian. Feta Cheese (greek salad), Vegetarian Moussaka, Tzatziki and the amazing greek  olives (and olive oil). Greece also has very good cheese you should try.

Day 1 – Explore Rhodes Old Town

Rhodes, Greece -3 Day Itinerary

Visit the old town of Rhodes. I had an amazing experience, and I am sure so will you. As soon as I entered the city, I was transported back in time to the medieval era. The ancient walls that surround the old town, built by the Knights of Saint John in the 14th century, are majestic and truly capture the essence of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

I suggest you take your time exploring. Every corner has something unique to offer, from the ancient walls to the charming squares. You might also consider taking a Walking Tour to get a sense of the city’s history and culture.

Local Cuisine

One of the highlights of visiting the Old Town of Rhodes is trying the delicious local cuisine. From traditional Greek dishes to international cuisine, there is something to satisfy every plate. Don’t forget to try the famous Greek coffee and baklava as a desert!

Discover the History

Explore the Street of the Knights, a must-visit for anyone. This cobblestoned street is lined with buildings that once served as the residences of the Knights of Saint John. Today, they have been converted into museums and other cultural institutions. Enjoy the nightlife: The Old Town of Rhodes is not only bustling with energy during the day but also transforms into a lively place of entertainment at night. Visit the museums to learn more about the history of the Old Town of Rhodes. The Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes and the Street of the Knights are both must-visit attractions.

Shopping

The old town is also the perfect place to shop. The old town is home to several marketplaces where you can get souvenirs, local crafts, and traditional Greek products. The Market of Sokratous is particularly popular, with vendors selling everything from handmade jewellery to fresh spices. I had the pleasure of buying a pair of handmade house shoes for my nephew. As I was making the purchase, the lady who sold them to me showed me a picture of her grandmother who had crafted the shoes herself. It was a truly special moment to see the personal touch that went into creating such a unique souvenir. I spent an entire day in the old city, taking breaks along the way to ensure that I discovered every last corner of this special place.

Day 2 – Visit Lindos

Rhodes, Greece -3 Day Itinerary

If you stay in the city center of Rhodes, I highly recommend renting a car to explore the city at your own pace. This way, you won’t be dependent on anyone, and you’ll have the freedom to stop wherever you want throughout the day. After having breakfast, start your day by driving to Kalithea Springs. The drive is incredibly scenic as you ride along the coast, providing you with stunning views all the way. Once you arrive, you’ll find a beautiful, secluded area with gorgeous buildings and an amazing deck above the water. It’s the perfect spot to take some amazing pictures and relax by the beach.

Next, continue your journey all the way to Lindos, a charming Greek village located on the eastern coast of the island. It’s a popular tourist destination with stunning beaches, scenic white buildings, and an ancient, breathtaking Acropolis. The village has a rich history dating back to the 10th century BC when it was first inhabited.

Off season is perfect for a visit as you can walk stress free through the narrow streets, stop by the shops and have lunch or a coffee on one of the rooftops, with an amazon view of the acropolis. After discovering  the city of Lindos, find your way to the Acropolis. The entrance is about 10 euro, and you will walk around 15 minutes up to the acropolis where you will have a breathtaking view of the sea.

Day 3 – Discover Rhodes City

Rhodes, Greece -3 Day Itinerary

Take it slow. As you wind down your trip to Rhodes, take some time to slow down and soak up the atmosphere of your neighborhood. If your accommodation is outside the city center, take a walk or hop on a bus to get a feel for the city. Stroll along the beach and make your way to the Rhodes Aquarium for a fascinating glimpse into marine life.

When it’s time for lunch, head to a beautiful restaurant  by the beach. Take in the sea view and, if the weather allows it, take some time for sunbathing.

Depending on the season, you may be able to visit the butterfly forest, which is a must-see attraction if you have the chance. I did not visit the butterfly forest as it was the wrong  season, but this is definitely a place I will visit if I ever go to Rhodes again.

For some last-minute shopping, make your way to the shopping passage and explore the amazing stores on offer.

Before you leave the island, make sure to experience a true Greek taverna with live music. These traditional Greek eateries often have a rich history, with some dating back hundreds of years.  Tavernas are  lively spots and are the perfect place to enjoy good food, great company, and traditional Greek music. If you plan on visiting a taverna on the weekend, be sure to ask your host or reception to call in advance and make a reservation, as these popular places tend to fill up quickly.
